Nickel Alloy 188, Haynes® 188, Udimet® 188
The super alloy known as Alloy 188 is composed of cobalt, nickel, chromium, and tungsten. It is available for purchase under a variety of brand names, such as Nickel Alloy 188, Haynes® 188, and Udimet 188®. Alloy 188 is capable of being used in the production of goods that are resistant to rust and corrosion thanks to the high concentration of chromium it contains, which is combined with a tiny amount of lanthanum.
Up to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit (1095 degrees Celsius), Alloy 188 maintains its suflidation resistance and outstanding oxidation resistance, providing great strength at high temperatures. It is not difficult to fabricate with Alloy 188, and it can be worked both cold and hot. Additionally, it provides users with remarkable ductility and metallurgical stability.
Alloy 188 is also well suited for welding, methods such TIG, MIG, electron beam, and resistance welding.
Alloy 188, in all its forms, is found in many different aerospace and gas turbine engine applications including:
Flame holders
Transition ducts
Afterburner liners
Combustion cans
Spray bars
The chemical composition of Alloy 188 is unique and includes:
Co 39% balance
Ni 20-24%
Cr 21-23%
W 13-15%
Mn 1.25% max
Fe 3% max
Alloy 188 is a fantastic option to consider if you are seeking for a nickel alloy that is suitable for use in applications that operate at extremely high temperatures and that is also simple to work with and flexible. Nickel Alloy 188, Haynes® 188, and Udimet® 188 are all alloys that Continental Steel is able to provide in bar, strip, sheet, and wire form.
