Why Do Stainless Steel Flanges Leak?

(1) Flange installation errors, such as wrong mouth, offset, wrong hole, opening, etc., offset is the more common cause of flange leakage. The so-called offset refers to the non-perpendicular, non-concentric, flange surface, etc. between the pipeline and the flange. Not parallel, when the internal medium pressure exceeds the load pressure of the gasket, flange leakage will occur.

(2) The use temperature of the flange refers to the medium temperature and the external use temperature. Due to the thermal expansion and cold contraction of the fluid medium, the bolts expand or contract, so that there will be gaps in the gasket, and the medium will leak through pressure. If the medium in the flanged pipeline is relatively low/high and the external temperature is relatively high/low, the flange will be affected by double effects during use, resulting in leakage.

(3) Medium corrosion. Due to the long-term corrosion of the gasket by the corrosive medium, the gasket undergoes chemical changes, the gasket begins to soften, the compressive force is lost, and the gasket fails in the flange connection, resulting in flange leakage.
