Monel K500 Heat Treatment​

Monel K500 (UNS N05500) undergoes precipitation (age) hardening to significantly increase its strength and hardness. Below is a detailed overview of its heat treatment process:


🔹 Monel K500 Heat Treatment Process

Stage Temperature Duration Purpose
Solution Annealing ~1650°F (900°C) 1–2 hours Dissolves precipitates and homogenizes structure
Quenching Rapid cooling (usually water quench) Immediately after annealing Retains a supersaturated solid solution
Age Hardening 960–980°F (516–527°C) 8–16 hours Forms Ni₃(Al,Ti) precipitates, increasing hardness and strength
