Hastelloy C-22 Machinability
Hastelloy C-22 is considered moderately difficult to machine due to its high strength and work-hardening characteristics.
It tends to work harden quickly, which can cause tool wear if proper machining techniques are not used.
Recommended to use sharp, rigid cutting tools with high-speed steel or carbide tooling.
Use low to moderate cutting speeds and ample coolant/lubrication to reduce heat and prevent work hardening.
Chip control can be challenging; use tools designed for heavy, continuous chips.
Pre-machining annealing can improve machinability.
Typical machining operations include milling, turning, drilling, and grinding with appropriate tooling and parameters.
