1. Galvanic Corrosion

When carbon steel and stainless steel are connected and exposed to moisture or an electrolyte, galvanic corrosion may occur.

Stainless steel acts as a cathode, and carbon steel as an anode, causing the carbon steel to corrode faster.

Prevention Tips:

Use insulating gaskets, sleeves, and washers.

Apply protective coatings to carbon steel components.

Avoid stagnant water or corrosive environments at the joint.

2. Fastener Material

Avoid using carbon steel bolts directly on stainless steel flanges (or vice versa).

Use matching stainless bolts (e.g., A193 B8 for 304, B8M for 316) or isolation kits if mixed materials are necessary.

3. Welding Considerations
