Stainless Steel 2205 Alloy Grade

Stainless Steel Alloy 2205

Alloy 2205 is a ferritic-austenitic stainless steel used when corrosion resistance and strength are essential. Alloy 2205 is also known as Grade 2205 Duplex, Avesta Sheffield 2205, and UNS 31803. Among its most important design characteristics are:

Superior resistance to fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and erosion

Superior thermal conductivity and thermal expansion against austenitic steels

Outstanding and consistent pitting and crevice corrosion resistance

Excellent resistance to sulfide stress corrosion cracking

Utilizable up to 600°F

Due to its unique set of advantages, Alloy 2205 is the ideal material for a wide range of applications. Examples of typical applications:

Heat exchangers, tubes, and pipelines for the oil and gas industry and desalination

Chemical and chloride processing and transport pressure vessels

Chemical tanker cargo tanks, pipework, and welding consumables

To attain the level of Alloy 2205, an alloy of stainless steel must include the following elements:

Fe 50.0% balance

Cr 22-23.0%

Ni 4.5-6.5%

Mo 3-3.5%

Mn 2.0% max

Si 1.0% max

N 0.14-0.20%

At SSM, we provide Stainless Steel Alloy 2205 in a variety of shapes and sizes, including sheet, coil, plate, and pipe. As with all of our products, our Alloy 2205 conforms to a variety of industry standards established by organizations such as ASTM, ASME, ISO, UNS, and EN.
