Monel 400 vs. Monel K-500 Flange Which one do you like best?
Monel 400 vs. Monel K-500 flanges: We've talked before about how monel is used in marine environments, such as in high-quality welded alloy pipes.
But what is it exactly? How is it different from other flanges made of stainless steel? Is it good for making parts that heat treat?
Well, SSM is here to answer these and many other questions! Let's get started.
What are flanges made of Monel 400?
Flanges made of the alloy Monel 400 are also known as UNS N04400 flanges.
The nickel alloy 400 flanges are a versatile alloy that can be used in a wide range of environments where corrosion is a problem.
The alloy is resistant to chloride ion stress-corrosion cracking, alkaline solutions, and both organic and inorganic compounds with chlorides that can cause corrosion.
Alloy 400 flanges are also resistant to oxidation up to 1200°F. However, they should not be used above 800°F because precipitation hardening makes them less flexible.
Nickel alloy 400 flanges are also often used in salt water pumps, valves and strainers, heat exchangers, and many other places.
What are flanges made of Monel K-500?
Monel K-500 flanges are made of a nickel alloy that has copper, aluminum, and titanium in it.
It is very strong, just like nickel alloy 400 flanges, and it doesn't rust or corrode. It is more flexible than other precipitation-hardened nickel alloys at cryogenic temperatures.
Flanges made of nickel alloy K500 are used in places where there is a lot of vibration, like in aircraft controls and systems.
There are different thicknesses of nickel alloy K500 flanges that customers can choose from based on their needs. It also comes in many different widths and lengths, depending on where it will be used. It can be bought from many places around the world. It can be hard to make, so only a small number of companies sell it online or in stores.
