The pipe size and pressure class required for the application determine flange dimensions. Flanges are standardized in accordance with publications from organizations such as ASME, MSS, and API, among others.
What is PCD for flange?
Pitch Circle Diameter
What is PCD? The PCD of a flange is one of the critical dimensions. PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter) is the diameter of a circle that goes through each of the bolt holes.

MEASUREMENT OF A COMMON FLANGE
It's crucial to choose the right flange. For an exact match, measure your flange according to the instructions below and compare the results to the dimensions of the flanges offered by The Metal Company. The Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD), which can determine whether the flange bolt holes will line up, is one of the most crucial measurements.
A: INSIDE DIAMETER
From one side of the internal hole to the other side of the hole, measure across the center.
B: OUTSIDE DIAMETER
From one external edge of the flange to the other, measure across the center.
C: PITCH CIRCLE DIAMETER (PCD)
Measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the other. The distance between the internal edge of the bolt hole on the opposite side and the external edge of the bolt hole can also be measured.
D: HOLE SIZE
Measure across the center of a bolt hole from edge to edge. Generally speaking, this will be a little bigger than the metric bolt being used.
E: THICKNESS
Measure the distance between the edges of the flat face.
