High-pressure butt weld flanges are a type of flange designed for butt-welding and transition with circular pipes. Butt weld flanges are produced and used based on specific principles and guidelines to ensure their correct usage and deliver exceptional application value and effectiveness. They are suitable for pipelines subject to significant pressure or temperature fluctuations, as well as for high-temperature, high-pressure, and low-temperature pipelines. One of the key advantages of butt weld flanges is their resistance to deformation and excellent sealing properties. They are widely used in applications with a nominal pressure rating (PN) of up to 16 MPa. The joint dimensions of these flanges may vary with changes in nominal pressure, making it challenging to order, manufacture, store, install, maintain, and repair pipes with equal-diameter flanges. For flanges with nominal pressure ratings of 0.25 MPa and 0.6 MPa, selecting 1.0 MPa joint dimensions with the same three standard thicknesses simplifies joint sizing.

- Due to the differences in detailed dimensions represented by the nominal diameter of vessel bodies and pipeline nominal diameters, the dimensions of vessel flanges and pipe flanges of the same nominal diameter also differ and cannot be substituted for each other. Apart from plain weld and butt weld flanges, other types include cast steel flanges, cast iron flanges, slip-on flanges, threaded flanges, and more.
Common specifications for pipe flanges, apart from GB9119.7-88, include standards such as the chemical industry specifications HG20592~HG20602-97, and Sinopec specifications SH3406-96. Chemical industry standards are divided into European and American systems, but the European system is widely adopted in China. As the operating pressure is not high, the diameters are not large, flanges of type I for plain welding and flat sealing surfaces may be selected. Gasket materials may include asbestos rubber sheets. Bolt materials are typically Q235-A, and flange sizes are usually 2" and 4".
